  2. to apply for a job
    • I'm going for a job in sales.
  3. to put a lot of effort into something, so that you get or achieve something
    • Go for it, John! You know you can beat him.
    • It sounds a great idea. Go for it!

    • turn down

       phrasal verb
    • turn somebody/something  down
      1. to reject or refuse to consider an offer, a proposal, etc. or the person who makes it
        • Why did she turn down your invitation?
        • He has been turned down for ten jobs so far.
        • He asked her to marry him but she turned him down.
